Kay Doubles Up At Farley Speedway

Kay Doubles Up At Farley Speedway

Farley, Iowa: Friday nights racing action was highlighted by “Legends” Night sponsored by Dubuque Hose & Hydraulics. Threatening weather forced officials to run the races in very swift fashion and the task was completed as the final checkered flag of the night waved as sprinkles began to fall.

The Out Pace Racing Products Late Models took the green with Nick Marolf blasting into the lead from his front row start and looked to be on cruise control as he rode the top side of extremely fast track but engine woes sidelined the 33 of Marolf as the race hit the midway point. Joel Callahan assumed the point only to have a spin as he worked lapped traffic force him to the rear. Justin Kay then took over the point and went on to record the win. Tyler Bruehning and Dan Shelliam completed the top three.

The GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modifieds provided another exciting feature. Matt Gansen took the race lead early, only to have sixth starting Justin Kay chase him down and make the winning pass on lap number 12 of the non stop 20 lap main event. Gansen and Joel Callahan rounded out the top three.

Troy Bauer snapped Tyler Soppe’s recent hot streak in the GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Sportmod 15 lap main event. Bauer took command early and went on to score a 10 car length win over Nick Coates with Soppe recording a 3rd place finish.

Phil Holtz continued his stronghold on the Bakey Seamless Gutters IMCA Stock Car division with his third consecutive feature win at the Farley Speedway. Scotter Dulin and Tommy Thompson completed the top three.

John Campbell scored his first ever Bakey Seamless Gutters 4 Cylinder feature win. Campbell held off a fast closing Brannon Beschen in taking the checkers first.

Special guests to the Farley Speedway on Friday night were the Midwest Jalopies and the Nostalgia Club racers. These two classes featured race cars from days gone by and both classes ran very well on the extremely fast track. The Jalopy main event win went to Rodney Haack driving a 1933 Chevy Coupe, Austin Honts drove his 1930 Plymouth to a second place finish ahead of Mark Merfeld’s 1940 Chevy. The Nostalgia car main event win went to Tim Bader in a 1955 Ford sedan, ahead of Mark Claeys 1955 Chevy with Brian Ashmore taking third in a Pontiac Firebird.

The Farley Speedway will not race on Friday, June 23rd, the next event will be the 5th Annual Aftermarket Nationals, Practice night is set for Wednesday, June 28th, an exciting night of qualifying action will be held on Thursday, June 29th and the Big show featuring the $10,000 to win 50 lap Modified main event and the $2,000 to win Sportmod feature will be run on Friday, June 30th.
