Kay’s Late Race Move Earns Big Win At West Liberty Raceway

West Liberty, Iowa: The West Liberty Raceway hosted the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge featuring two 25 laps features in the Out Pace Racing Products division on Saturday night. The features both provided plenty of high speed excitement. The second feature which brought the action packed night of racing to an end just prior to the 10 o’clock hour, delighted the fans with a pass by Justin Kay as the leaders battled through lapped traffic coming to the checkers. Denny Eckrich led the main event 24 and ¾ laps only to have Kay find a clear path through the lapped cars as the leaders raced off of turn four to the checkers. Eckrich settled for second ahead of Kyle Hinrichs. The first half of the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge took the green with Nick Marolf taking the early lead but Decorah, Iowa’s Tyler Bruening proved to be the strongest car as he was able to overtake Marolf and race on to the checkers ahead of Marolf and Justin Kay.

The Performance Concepts IMCA Modified feature belonged to Davenport veteran driver Bruce Hanford. The 61 of Hanford took the lead from his pole position start and led the caution free race flag to flag. Dakota Hayden ran second ahead of Joel Callahan.

Dalton Simonsen appeared to be in route to the Weikert Iron & Metal Sportmod feature win on Saturday night but Tim Plummer had other plans. Plummer caught Simonsen on lap number 15 of the 20 lap feature and made the winning pass. Simonsen ran second ahead of Brayton Carter.

Johnny Spaw took over the race lead in the Kile Motorsports IMCA Stock Car feature after race leader David Brandies encountered problems while leading. Spaw went on to score the win ahead of Matt Picray and John Hemsted.

Jason KlerkDeRus scored the ten lap feature win in the US 6 Bodyworks Sport Compact class. KlerkDeRus raced to the checkers ahead of Levi Heath and Ryan Havel.

Saturday, July 22nd will be a full night of IMCA racing as the Muscatine County Fair will be in full swing. Hot laps will get underway at 6:30 PM with racing to follow.
