Duffy Charges to “Rumble” Win at Dubuque Speedway

Dubuque, Iowa: The 2017 racing season came to end on Saturday, September 30th at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway in spectacular fashion with the running of the “Rumble On The River”. The “Rumble is a showcase racing event for the open wheel Modifieds. The Modifieds always provide great racing at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds Speedway and this event was certainly a testament to that fact with great racing both nights of the “Rumble”.

Mark Schulte earned the pole position start by setting fast time on Friday night and qualifying through his heat to hold his time earning him the pole position start. Schulte set the pace by running the extreme low side of the track. Jason Schueller ran second to Schulte for the majority of the race, but as the laps wound down in the 30 lap main event the extreme top side of the track came in as a very fast line. Darrin Duffy ran the precarious line up next to the wall and was able to catch the leaders as the field took the white flag lap. With Schulte leading entering the fourth turn Duffy made a charge off the extreme high line and was able to nip Schulte at the finish line by less than half a car length. Schuller took third ahead of Travis Denning.

The Sportmod feature win went to Scott Busch in his #71B open wheel Sportmod. Busch ran a flawless race in leading flag to flag, by running the apron of the slick track. Busch held off several challenges by Dubuque Speedway Sportmod Track Champion Troy Bauer, in capturing his first win in three years.

The Late Models provided the fans with great racing in their 25 lap main event at the “Rumble”. Luke Goedert survived a late race scare provided by lapped traffic that allowed Dan Shelliam to close as the white flag waved. Goedert was able to get to finish line just ahead of Shelliam and Terry Neal.

Joe Bonney won the action packed Stock Car Feature and Brett Marshall scored the win in the 4 Cylinder main event.
